An extended social hour from noon to 1 p.m. ushered in the 2007-2008 year for RAPSU. About 60 to 70 were in attendance.
Our president, Marge Weiss, invited new members to stand and introduce themselves so that we could make them welcome.
Clarence Bobbe, one of our long time members, announced an interesting musical program that will be held on Oct. 7, a Sunday, at 7 p.m. at Russellville Park, 103rd and Burnside. Jerry Bobbe, Clarence's son, is a prominent cellist and along with pianist Maria Choban will present an eclectic program. This event is free and will be held in one of the retirement home's large meeting rooms. Parking is usually available within a block or two. Max has a 102nd St. stop just across from the front door of Russellville and is about a 20 minute ride from downtown.
The main program for the afternoon was a presentation of readings from four scenes from Tennessee William's A Streetcar Named Desire by the Artist Repertory Theatre Outreach Program. Rebecca Martinez, Education and Outreach Director introduced the program and conducted the question and answer period after the program. Susannah Mars portrayed Blanche, Tim True portrayed Stanley, and Val Landrum portrayed Stella. All seemed to enjoy the program; and as was aptly remarked afterwards, this presentation makes one want to see Streetcar one more time.
